The Goal Mindset: Unleashing Motivation, Dopamine, and Escaping the Social Media Trap
The Goal mindset….. this idea is quite self-explanatory. To put this in simple terms, It signifies a person’s unwavering determination for one or more purpose driven goals. These goals cannot be any ordinary goal. These goals have to have a deeper purpose, to fuel an inner drive to complete it.
Let's look at the crux of modern society. Modern society has a lack of motivation and goals. Without goals, life may feel devoid of purpose.
Goals give us motivation and drive.
Delving into the realm of Neuroscience, we have the Dopamine system. Dopamine is a Neuro-modulator present in the brain, which is connected to motivation and drive. This system has two parts.
It is produced when a goal has been completed successfully and also acts as a motivation catalyst. It increases the pursuit of similar goals. Celebrating a victory will motivate us to achieve similar victories. But this celebration needs to be done in moderation. Too much of dopamine also has its issues. If small victories are celebrated too often, we become content with our current state of life and loose drive to pursue bigger goals. At the same time, too little dopamine leads to very little motivation to pursue all types of goals.
The problem with modern society - Social Media
Social-media another criminal which disrupts this dopamine system. Whenever a person scrolls through Instagram, some amount of dopamine gets produced.
Now what does this lead to?
This fries your brain and your dopamine system. This sets a higher standard in the release of dopamine. If this standard is increased the amount of pleasure received for the same amount of dopamine reduces. Social media increases this standard and damages up your brain. Since dopamine is produced while watching social-media, it results in addiction because dopamine increases the pursuit of actions which caused the production of it.
The Goal mindset is an attitude towards life where these distractions are not present. The idea is simple. Set a goal and work towards it, but using the above mentioned parameters. Start focusing on your priorities. The rich-poor gap is growing, and the middle class is fading away. Get your stuff straight. Time is running! Make your move!
